HCH sits in the Doon Valley at the foothills of the Himalayas in India, and has provided high quality affordable healthcare to the surrounding poor and marginalised communities for over 80 years. Annually they treat over 100,000 patients, and with a campus of buildings which date back to the founding years of the hospital the Inpatient services in particular have been in desperate need of modernisation and consolidation.
The design for the new Inpatient block was developed through a thorough consultation with hospital staff, during a series of workshops in 2017. The 3000 sqm design includes a total of 99 bed spaces across 4 wards, private rooms, isolation rooms, and a fully equipped ICU.
The design focusses heavily on maximising natural light, passive ventilation and cooling, and simplifying patient flow and connections to other hospital facilities. With a tight budget and limited resources the construction technology and materials are simple and local, while still ensuring that the facility will exceed healthcare standards far into the future.
The building will open to Patients in November 2019
